How it works

Rank every club. Score one point per position off. Lowest total wins.

The basics

Top 44 is a free season-long prediction game covering the English Premier League (20 clubs) and the EFL Championship (24 clubs) — 44 teams in total, hence the name. Before the season kicks off you predict where every club will finish. As the real season plays out, your score is calculated automatically each morning.

Scoring

Your score for each club is the absolute difference between your predicted position and its actual position.

  • Predicted 1st, finishes 1st → 0 points
  • Predicted 4th, currently 6th → 2 points
  • Predicted 20th, currently 12th → 8 points

Your total is the sum across every club in that competition. A perfect table is zero. The lowest total wins — overall on the Global leaderboard, and within any private league you join.

Worked example (mini league of 4 clubs)

Predicted order: A, B, C, D. Actual current order: B, A, D, C.

  • A: predicted 1, actual 2 → 1
  • B: predicted 2, actual 1 → 1
  • C: predicted 3, actual 4 → 1
  • D: predicted 4, actual 3 → 1

Total: 4 points.

Deadlines & locking

You can create and edit your prediction freely until the season starts. Once the first match of a competition kicks off, predictions for that competition lock automatically and cannot be changed for the rest of the season. Your single prediction for each competition counts in the global league and all private leagues.

Live table & colour cues

The dashboard shows the real live league table, with your predicted position for each club in brackets, e.g.Arsenal [2]. Rows are colour-coded:

  • Green — the club is currently in exactly your predicted position.
  • Amber — one position off.
  • No highlight — two or more positions off.

Tie-breaks

If two players finish on the same total score, the tie-break order is: (1) most exact positions correct, then (2) most positions within one place, then (3) earliest prediction submission timestamp.

Season format

Top 44 runs for the full domestic season. Live standings are refreshed once every morning from the official fixture data. Final scores are locked in when the last matchday of each competition completes.

Private leagues

Create a private league from the dashboard to get a 6-character code and a shareable invite link. Anyone with the code can join. You can submit a different prediction per private league.
